​Location: Home based in the UK

Our client is an award winning, global speciality chemicals distributor with laboratories & offices in the UK, they offer first class support to their customers. They are seeking a Sales Manager to lead sales and new business development for the coatings, construction and PU industries. You will be highly motivated with a good technical understanding of chemicals uses within the target industries. Excellent communication and experience of working for a distributor and principles will be advantageous.

Key Tasks

  • Manage the sales & market development activities for the specialty chemicals for the coatings, construction and PU industries.

  • To develop new sales of products within existing & new market areas which are in line with the company’s strategic plan.

  • A key part of the role will be identifying new opportunities for products and recommending new product development projects.

  • To maintain & develop profitable sales of products and to be the main interface between company and its markets.

Responsibilities:

  • To be knowledgeable with the Principals & products associated with the Coatings, Construction & PU markets.

  • Sales and revenue targets achieved/exceeded versus the budget with emphasis on maximising gross margin return across the customer base

  • Develop sales in existing & new markets generating an agreed level of new margin for the business

  • Initiate technical work based on a full understanding of customer’s products and processes.

  • Customer development projects are followed closely and completed in an appropriate time period

  • Develop new customers (prospects & actual) on a continual basis

  • To plan and execute an agreed number of customer calls per calendar year

  • Communicate with relevant principals on any specific technical and commercial matters.

  • To recommend development projects where appropriate and provide the necessary support information to justify any product development.

  • To provide monthly highlights/comments on a continual basis to the Business Manager and assist in preparation of budgets on an annual basis

  • Participate in industry promotional functions, including exhibitions, conferences, committees and presentations as required

Candidate Profile

  • Commercial experience gained in with the sales of chemicals, ideally with a distributor in the UK

  • Technical knowledge of the application and uses of chemicals in the coatings, construction and PU industries

  • Education: A Degree in Chemistry or Science would be advantageous however industry equivalent experience will be considered

  • UK driving licence is essential

  • Applicants must be living in the UK with the right to work in the UK is required, sponsorship is not available for this role.

  • Capacity to work accurately and make decisions on competing priorities.

  • Communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate technical and commercial issues both internally and externally. Ability to express ideas and issues effectively both verbally and through clearly written memos, letters and reports.

  • General computer literacy/competency

  • Ability to build strong customer relationships built on trust, respect and understanding of genuine customer service.

  • Influencing skills particularly when outside the sphere of direct control.
