​LOCATION: Hybrid role - Home & Head Office

Are you experienced commercial professional who is driven by strategic growth plans with a proven track record in leadership? We have an exciting role to drive forward a chemical distributor business in the UK and Europe. Working with manufacturers and a growing customer base, you will need to be dynamic and experienced in sales to a range of industries including coatings, plastics, rubber, personal care and construction chemicals.

Main Responsibilities

  • Hybrid role will require regular visits to the Head Office, with responsibility for a the sales team consisting of business unit manager, technical manager and office support executives.

  • As a member of the senior leadership team, the Sales Director will develop and implement the long-term ambitious commercial strategy and create a “best in class” sales and commercial team to generate business growth across all territories.

Key Duties to include:

  • To manage all commercial functions within the business

  • Lead the business development initiatives, working closely with customers and principals to deliver the right strategy to grow sales and increase profitability in line with the agreed budget

  • To liaise, negotiate and support customers with their requirements based upon commercial and technical expectations

  • Deliver accurate sales targets for volume, revenue and gross profit for the business including key customer account management responsibility

  • Monitor and report monthly upon the Sales and Business development initiative to the board

  • To monitor, in conjunction with the credit controller and commercial team the payment history and credit worthiness of all customers to ensure timely payments

  • Work closely with the Senior Management team to ensure projects and strategic objectives are aligned with company strategy

  • Present and update the board on progress of business aims/goals

  • Produce accurate financial reforecast and budgets

  • Marketing the company, principals and products via Digital and traditional marketing whilst representing the company at relevant trade shows and exhibitions

  • Travel both within the UK and International will be required

Candidate profile

  • Significant proven experience of designing, implementing & executing commercial strategies and ideally from within the chemical sector

  • Educated to degree level with a chemical or scientific qualification

  • MBA would be desirable

  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills

  • Entrepreneurial with the ability to think outside of the box to improve sales revenues and gross profits

  • Ability to understand data and market trends and to take action when appropriate

  • High energy levels and degree of intellect to challenge and promote new sales/business development.

  • Experience of developing and leading external and internal sales teams

  • Strong commercial acumen selling technical products with a full understanding of the value proposition.

  • Organised, persuasive, strong networker and influential communication style.

  • Experience of utlising MS Office and CRM Software

  • Experience of integrating acquired businesses is preferable
