​Home Based in the UK - ideally in the Manchester area / M62 corridor

Great opportunity to grow an international business, our client is based in Europe and focused on the marketing and distributing petrochemical-derived raw materials, intermediates, specialities and polymers. They belong to a highly successful trading house and are suppliers to multinational as well as local industry customers across Europe. A Business Development Manager position has recently been opened to expand the UK sales activities for bulk shipments and to eventually build up local import and stock holding activities in UK. You will have experience of managing sales for a chemical distribution business and be looking to take on further responsibility to build the UK presence. Key markets are manufacturers of adhesives, composites, coatings, resins, polyurethanes, sealants. Progression to UK Country Manager is available.

Key Tasks:

  • Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for sales & marketing activities in the UK as a member of a small team.

  • You will drive business development by wining new customers and introducing new products.

  • Cooperate and liaise with internal partners in Product Management and Inside Sales.

  • Regular reporting on sales and marketing activity.

  • Get a deep knowledge of customer needs and competitor activity and develop understanding of the “big picture”.

  • Opportunity to eventually develop UK sales support, importing and stock functions.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Commercial or technical background in petrochemical-derived raw materials or speciality chemicals.

  • Experience of sales and proven track record in new business development.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

  • Able to analyse market conditions and the "big picture":

    • Influences on client buying behaviours such as cost drivers and logistical bottlenecks

    • regulatory landscape

    • Supply chain impacts such as shipping and global politics

    • A good knowledge of the competitive landscape.

  • With an understanding of how products can be matched to process and manufacturing methods.

  • Must be able to understand and analyse fundamental sales metrics and become the UK business expert

  • UK driving license

  • Willingness to travel widely in UK, up to 50%

  • Must have the right to work in the UK
