Trainee Technical Sales Executive / Science Graduate

Fantastic opportunity for a career in technical sales working with an International chemicals distributor who is focused on sustainability and circularity. The ideal candidate will have a good technical background in coatings, adhesives, sealants, polymers who is looking to further their career with a move into a sales role.

Following training you will manage sales of a wide range of additives, pigments, resins and fillers to UK customer base consisting of coatings, adhesives, sealants, polymer manufactures. Based in the Midlands area, you will travel within the UK and occasional within Europe.

Career Development to Sales;

  • 6 months office-based, learning the system from the SCM’s as coaches and mentors, interspersed with product group training from product and business managers, and workflow training from the TSM’s.

  • Joint visits to selected customers after the initial 2 months training period, along with TSM (Tech Sales Mgr) team, to learn the breadth of the markets served.

  • Agile/Teal/Circularity workshop participation to demonstrate the group culture and how company functions within it.

  • Take up responsibility for tier 2 accounts in a defined area, ideally this would overlap with current TSM responsibilities in the midlands area.

  • Expectations – 3 days travel per week, 3-4 customer visits, travel to the UK office as and when required – normally every 2-3 months, occasional visits to mainland Europe to attend training & workshops at head office and/or suppliers premises.

  • Responsibilities will lead on to some key account management longer term, and appointment as business manager for strategic suppliers.

  • Comfortable with a high level of autonomy in the role after initial settling in period.

Candidate Profile:

  • Science education background – physics, chemistry, maths to A-level (not necessarily all 3)

  • Graduate would be good but not essential

  • IT-literate, excel skills particularly relevant

  • Previous experience from a relevant industry sector we serve, be it from the sales, admin or technical side would be advantageous (Plastics, paints, adhesives, coatings, construction chems, inks, composites)

  • Keen, curious, self-motivated with positive attitude and desire to learn and ask questions

  • Able and happy to work alone but function well as part of a team.

  • Adaptable to change, flexible mindset, prepared for growth of business, of tasks, responsibilities and know-how.

  • Needs access to suitable setup for acceptable level of home working.

  • Location around the central England area to allow access to key midlands region to visit a wide range of customers business activities

  • Full driving licence and passport

  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK - sponsorship is not available for this role
