​Exciting opportunity to develop polyurethane technologies for a global organisation who are focused on developing sustainable and green technology for the construction industry. Our client invests in its people and research, recently launching a new innovation center. You will have several years experience in the synthesis and formulation of polyurethane polymers. The role will be responsible for medium and to long term projects, working with colleagues and customers around the globe.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Technical Director, and as part of a large R & D team, you will lead long and short term projects in the development of polyurethane polymers for application in construction products such as insulation panels.

  • Optimise foam chemistry to ensure superior product properties whilst maintaining cost effective production.

  • Responsible for chemical process and product development to ensure formulations and product properties are optimised for future legislative, environmental, and customer requirements.

  • Develop own knowledge of phenolic, polyurethane, and polyisocyanurate foam chemistry to be able to act as a resource for the Technical Processing teams.

  • Liaise with suppliers, universities, technical establishments, certification bodies, trade associations and customers, or attend conferences to further the company’s interests including travel.

  • Mentor inexperienced technicians and Chemists within the Department to allow them to develop their careers

Candidate

  • The incumbent is expected to have several years appropriate research, development or technical experience in polyurethane polymers with applications in foam or emulsion or coatings or polymeric technology.

  • Qualified to degree or higher degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Science or a similar subject.

  • You will be hands-on with an aptitude for problem solving.

  • Communication skills are essential to this role both for presentations and report writing.

  • Proven track record in project management as part of a interdisciplinary team.

  • Although lab based, there will be travel for customer trials and attendance of conferences.

  • Must have the right to work in the UK

  • Must have access to a car with driving license due to the rural location of the site.
