Permanent, full time: Monday to Thursday 08.30 to 17.00, and Friday 08.30 to 13.00

We have an exciting opportunity for a R & D Chemist to join a busy and expanding team, working for an established manufacturer that produces a range of products in various sectors including the energy and telecommunication utilities, in addition to the electronic and rail industries. Reporting to the Lead Development Chemist, the right candidate will be primarily responsible for new product development formulations from the laboratory through to commercialisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing new adhesives, sealants and elastomers utilising polyurethane, epoxy, and methacrylate technologies.

  • Supporting the development process from briefing to development and formulation approvals, whilst assisting with raw material and new technology research.

  • Owning responsibility for whole project lifecycle from receiving the customer brief through to supervising initial production and trials.

  • Identifying new products, this will include researching products and ingredients, liaising with suppliers, and obtaining samples.

  • Improvement of existing products, including troubleshooting any issues and working with different departments to gain in-put.

  • Conduct laboratory and production sized trials of new formulations.

  • Source and prepare technical documentation, including Safety Datasheets and Technical Datasheet, in accordance with current procedures and systems.

  • Identify opportunities and conduct field research to remain up to date with products available on the market and new product launches.

Candidate Profile:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in a laboratory environment with product development and formulating experience within the sealants, adhesives, and elastomers chemistry sector

  • Relevant experience in working with Polyurethanes, Epoxies and Acrylates

  • Knowledge of UK CLP, CLP, UK REACH, REACH, CoSHH legislation

  • Self-motivated, resilient, and good at problem solving

  • Fully capable in writing technical reports

  • Can work individually as well as in a team environment

  • Excellent communication and organisation skills

  • A Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or related subject is desirable
