​LOCATION: Northwest England

Our client is a leading paint and specialist coatings manufacturer for application in walls, flooring and roofing. They are seeking a Paint Chemist to join their R & D team based in North West England to develop paints and coatings for specialist applications.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in the chemistries and manufacturing processes of the paint industry or a similar field. You will to take responsibility for the preparation, implementation and monitoring of development projects alongside the maintenance and improvement of existing coatings.

As part of the role, you will be required to develop a knowledge of inhouse suite of software used to ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations on new product/can labels, batch formulations and raw materials. Actioning updates to supplier files to adhere to BBA and ISO 9000 reviews and auditing requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulating new product paints/coatings.

  • Actioning cost saving methods across our existing products.

  • Attending monthly technical meetings/Quarterly reviews with the Directors.

  • Ensuring that product formulae and batch/mixing instructions are kept up to date.

  • Overseeing the QC in our day-to-day manufacturing department.

  • Testing of products to verify performance.

  • Lab management activities including equipment calibration and ordering of laboratory consumables.

  • Supporting the sales function with required technical assistance.

  • To attend and actively participate in any meetings required by management.

Candidate requirements

  • Experience within the paints and coatings sector (an In-depth knowledge of colour/paint/polymer technology) *advantageous.

  • Experience of conducting laboratory tests to verify product suitability.

  • A working knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements in the laboratory.

  • A working knowledge of paint application techniques.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Experience of dealing with customer technical issues and requests.

  • Right to work in the UK.
