Our client is a global organization with a newly commissioned technical centre, providing innovative solutions in the paints, coatings, inks, colour dispersions, and adhesive industries. They are dedicated to supporting advancements in coating technology and offer a dynamic and flexible working environment.

They are seeking a hands-on Technical Manager or Formulation Chemist to lead and support a variety of customer projects. The successful candidate will develop and test formulations, provide technical support, and produce scientific data and reports. This role requires a proactive individual with a passion for solving industry challenges and a commitment to maintaining high standards in laboratory practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead customer projects to develop and test formulations, working closely with the sales team across multiple countries.

  • Support the introduction of new products by providing scientific data and basic formulation recommendations.

  • Produce technical reports and propose solutions to industry challenges such as sustainability and energy efficiency.

  • Produce samples of paints, coatings, and colour dispersions using spray, brush, and drawdown application methods.

  • Ensure good laboratory practice and a safe working environment.

  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.

  • Investigate new specialty chemicals, pigments, and polymers, developing basic formulations.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience: Several years of experience in formulation and testing of paints, coatings, adhesives, or colour dispersions is essential.

  • Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for addressing industry challenges.

    • Excellent communication, written, and presentation skills.

    • Proven track record in project delivery and ability to prioritize work.

    • Good colour vision.

    • Experience using dispersers, mixers, rheology equipment, gloss meters, and other coatings equipment.

  • Employment status: Must have the right to work in the UK and live within a short commute of the laboratory.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a small UK team and a global organization.

  • Personal Attributes: Hands-on approach, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining high standards in laboratory practice.
