​An exciting role has become available for a Coating Specialist with a leading manufacturer of high-quality PVC films, based in the North East of England. You will be contributing to the development of new products, improving existing formulations and optimising manufacturing processes. This is a great opportunity to make a significant impact in a dynamic and growing industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise coating formulations and techniques, including excimer, UV and 2K lacquers for PVC furniture films.

  • Design and implement novel water-based inks and primers, enhancing performance and sustainability across products.

  • Serve as a specialist in embossing techniques, creating innovative textures and patterns to enhance surface aesthetics.

  • Introduce new features to surfaces, improving functionality and aligning with market trends.

  • Develop and evaluate new products for new and existing applications

  • Support product qualification and approval programmes in support of the NPD&I portfolio.

  • Conduct laboratory experiments and testing to evaluate the properties and characteristics of films and surface coatings.

  • Provide technical support and assistance as required to resolve production and quality issues in support of new and existing products.

  • Provide technical support to customers.

  • Assist in the evaluation of raw materials, suppliers, and vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability requirements.

  • Occasional travel will be required for customer visits, training sessions and industry events, sometimes outside of usual working hours

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Material Science is essential.

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the coating industry is essential and experience in an industry relating to plastics or materials would be desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.

  • Knowledge of new product development, process safety, optimisation, and improvements.

  • Ability to plan, organise, carry out testing work and to analyse results.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
