Location: Office based in Central Europe.
Our client is a successful and expanding chemical distributor and trader. They are family owned and operated and have been in business for 40 years with 80 employees and local sales branches across Europe. They are looking for an ambitious Business Line Manager to drive the commodity chemical sales for the industrial sales group, especially for CASE and composites in construction chemicals and coatings.
You would be focusing on a range of product groups that include Resins, Binders, Hardeners & Additives, UV-curable monomers and Reactive & other Diluents (for epoxy systems).
This role is a strategic managerial function to ensure that the Business Line achieves its projected contribution to corporate goals. You will be responsible for developing yearly strategic plans to manage product supply forecasts and supplier and competition-specific market approaches by the sales operation.
Market and sales forecasts
Qualitative and quantitative tasks in accordance with the projected product supply including not only your own visits to suppliers, customers, and conferences but also for the sales operation in order to estimate yearly FTE resource requirements.
Preparing market communications, sales training and detailed value propositions.
You will also define target accounts for which you will develop and ensure execution of a Key Account Management strategy.
Plus the development of a 3-year market analysis based on current, predictable and potential future product lines.
Ensure successful execution by the field sales and in-house logistic and support operations.
Your role will include full responsibility for Supplier Management which includes understanding your working relationships with suppliers and assigning team activities appropriately such as:
Visits from or to suppliers
Joint annual planning
Sales priorities – new or amended sales plans
Contract agreements or extensions (in partnership with upper management)
Cultivate your business in the appropriate markets in accordance with defined corporate goals:
Pan-European market penetration and identification of key opportunities
Increase in market share
Expansion of product range and engagement of new suppliers
Turnover and margin growth
Set annual goals for yourself and your reports which ensure the overall success of the Business Line.
Several years’ in the chemicals distribution or trading business including Principle, Product or Sales Management experience.
Excellent leadership and influencing skills
A comprehensive knowledge of the market for raw material supply to manufacturers of construction coatings, adhesives, printing inks and composites.
An understanding of these markets and their competitive landscape is essential.
Awareness of the global and financial factors that can impact material sourcing, supply lines and logistics.
Strong analytical skills specifically used in budgeting for targets and incentive schemes, demand planning and sales forecasting.
Able to drive effective execution of planned supplier and sales strategies.
Some experience in marketing communications will be advantageous.
Essentially based in the European HQ, with some travel. If you have a proven record, home-based working will be considered.
