Our client is a highly successful independent, paint manufacturer, committed to environmentally responsible production of high quality decorative paints both water and solvent based. An exciting role for an experienced Paint Chemist or Technician, to develop new and improve existing decorative paints, has arisen in the R & D team.

Reporting to the Technical Director, the candidate will be required to carry out work in the areas of research and development, improvement, testing and trouble shooting, maintenance and evaluation of products, sourcing and testing raw materials, manufacturing procedures, test procedures, quality systems, R&D systems and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • To plan a pilot plant and scale up of products from laboratory trials through to the handover into the production facility.

  • To develop new formulations and produce samples.

  • To assist in the routine operation at the R&D Laboratory.

  • To analyse and evaluate raw materials and competitor products.

  • Investigate and formulate improvement of products and manufacturing processes and assist with their implementation.

  • Investigate and formulate solutions to problems in production, laboratory and the field, make recommendations to the Technical Manager, and liaise with other staff in remedying problems.

  • To develop an understanding of research, produce reports (verbal and written) to the Technical Director, and to communicate the results of research.

  • To become familiar with and actively support all provisions of the Quality System appropriate to the responsibility of this position.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in Surface Coatings preferably decorative paints

  • A degree or higher science qualification (HNC though would consider A Levels)

  • Understanding of the decorative paint market

  • Proven problem solving experience again preferably in the coatings industry

  • You must have the right to work in the UK and be located in the Manchester area.
